It 'a practice that belongs to all civilizations since ancient times, and who accompanied the first manifestations of human life associated with the work songs, war, hunting, religious chants, ceremonial, funeral, propitiatory, magic etc..

In the West, the chant has been for a long time the main event vowel, derived initially from the ancient Jewish religious songs. But the first vowel that can be called art took shape with the development of polyphony. Around the '500 women were excluded from the sacred chant, polyphony and gave the parties soprano and top men singing in falsetto (falsettists artificial).

To these were joined by the tenor, with the vocal characteristics of the baritone, and bass. In Italy, at the end of 500, the castrati or natural falsettists (singers who were castrated) were replaced with artificial falsettists, which were distinguished by the special ability of pulmonary resistance, softness, suppleness and fullness of sound. Between the '500 and '600 repertoire of choral music extended beyond the liturgy alone, and in 700 the choral works of Bach and Handel, accompanied by orchestra, favored the birth of amateur choirs, in which women sang the parts for soprano and contralto.

Although western music he has made a kind of great complexity, the practice of choral singing has spread around the world in popular contexts and tribal as in the classical tradition. These songs may indeed accompany manual labor, or social events of life to become part of religious ritual. Among the many traditions of chanting there are polyphonic choirs and polyrhythmic African music, the harmonies of thirds and sixths in the alpine and northern Slavic, fees for female voices in the Balkans, which sometimes progressing to second parallel, choral singing to 'unison that may accompany the Indonesian gamelan, and finally the chorus in unison and polyphonic Oceania. In addition to representing the culture and traditions of a country using a traditional repertoire, choral music has an important place also in the context of individual and collective expressive communication, contributing to the social formation of the individual. The choir is a school that teaches the person to interact with other members of the group, right through the music: it is essential for a chorister, is the control of the parameters of his own voice in relation to the other, making sure that it you never amalgams and does not prevail over other voices in the group.

Choral activities, it is also recognized a natural ability psycho - therapeutic against some individuals. For the development of mental health and well-being, creative activities are the key to the attainment of psychic equilibrium. Through them you can aim the evolution of the human being in its entirety and bring out all the potential capabilities. Activities such as singing, playing, dancing, are directly creative, being the music so a mental discipline that needs order, attention and concentration, but that allows the manifestation of self-expression. The music has a significant emotional impact in the individual, and allows him to communicate through an alternative to the verbal code. Through the analog communication we express ourselves with a system of symbols richer and more musical stimulation can elicit improvements in affective, motivational and communication. The voice is a musical instrument that starts with the man and the man inside. So we can define the chorus as a means of musical expression closer to man: it is verbal communication that turns into music, to express everything that can not be said with words alone.
